Texas Classic Homes was conceived out of a desire to build exceptional homes that carry on a family heritage that spans 3 generations. TCH President Walter Pate’s grandfather, Fred Barber, was a builder of quality homes in Midland during the 1930s and 40s. Even today many of these structures remain highly prized homes in “old Midland.” Walter says his Grandpa Barber always stressed building homes with quality, value and craftsmanship...and at TCH it is our vision to maintain that family tradition.
Texas Classic Homes is owned and operated by Walter Pate and Marie Pate along with son Travis Pate (who joined TCH fall of 2006).
Together, the Pates and their talented staff design and build custom homes as well as homes ready for buyers to purchase and move-in. The Pates start only 10 new homes each year so they can focus on the design and craftsmanship of each home. At TCH, we are committed to excellence at every stage of design & construction and unsurpassed service to our homeowners. One of the best indications of our performance as architects and builders is found in the testimonials of homeowners we have been privileged to serve.
At TCH we cherish the opportunity to work in partnership with you to create your dream home. We listen carefully to the details of your desires, needs and preferences. We work hard to develop the best design solution for your family. Then, we turn your vision into reality. The results are beautiful and distinctive home environments that are comfortable, solid and well suited to your lifestyle. We know that quality construction is built into your home and can’t be added on at the end of the job.
Walter F. Pate, AIA, CGB, CGP, President
As an award winning architect, Walter has designed homes in Austin, Atlanta, Midland, Odessa and the Permian Basin. He has a passion for creative design that provides a timeless character and functional “flow of space.” Our homes carefully integrate traditional building materials, proportion and scale with energy conservation and high tech amenities. TCH doesn’t choose just to follow the latest design trends or clichés which will quickly “date” a home. Instead, we give much thought to working with each family knowing that a well designed and built home should reflect the tastes and meet the needs of the owners. Walter regularly schedules time for visiting each new TCH home site to review construction quality and progress.
Walter has attained the prestigious NAHB designations of Certified Graduate Builder (CGB) and Certified Green Professional (CGP). He has demonstrated a level of experience, knowledge and proficiency as a builder and adheres to a strict Code of Ethics.
Having a highly successful architectural practice in Midland for over 25 years, Walter is a graduate from the prestigious University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture. Currently, Walter serves on the Permian Basin Home Builders Association board as a director and as a State Director to the Texas Association of Builders in Austin. He is also a National Director for the National Association of Home Builders.
Whenever Walter is not working, he loves to invest time in his grandchildren. In addition, he enjoys reading, hunting white tail deer and is actively involved in his church.
Marie Pate, Office Administrator
Marie is an integral part of TCH’s mission and vision as she gracefully handles all the human resources and bookkeeping responsibilities of TCH. Along with Marie’s business sense, she has a talent for interior finishes and colors that adds perspective to the father and son design and construction team. Marie moved to west Texas from the Ft. Worth area where she attended Navarro College.
In addition, Marie is Walter’s “executive side-kick” ... you rarely see one without the other. He affectionately calls her “Precious.” Marie & Walter have four children who reside in Midland, Oregon and Colorado. Her top priorities (outside of her husband and children) are her grandchildren. Other passions include gardening and shopping!
Travis R. Pate, CGB, CGP, Project Manager
After attending Texas A&M University and working in the Austin area, Travis brings over 15 years of residential & commercial construction experience to TCH. Previously, he supervised construction of a 5,000 sq. ft. residence in Austin that was featured in Architectural Digest and Fine Homebuilding magazines. Additionally, he supervised multiple residential projects in the Austin Green Building Program (including one that received the highest score possible of four stars).
Travis has attained the prestigious NAHB designations of Certified Graduate Builder (CGB). He has demonstrated a level of experience, knowledge and proficiency as a builder and adheres to a strict Code of Ethics.
Travis truly loves the building industry. At Texas Classic Homes, he takes sub bids, hires subs, purchases materials, prepares schedules and oversees and directs the building of each home. He is a dedicated student of the home building profession. Travis is fluent in Spanish which is an enormous aid in communicating with local subs and the construction labor force. He enjoys a great relationship with our subs which he believes is essential for keeping quality at its highest and construction progress on schedule. As a skilled carpenter and craftsman, Travis has a keen eye for construction details and quality assurance. He gained additional construction expertise while serving in the US Army including duty in El Salvador and Egypt.
Travis schedules downtime with his wife Stefanie and playing with their very active daughters Phoebe and Naomi and their son Wyatt.
